Japan and Thailand Lead Imports of Myanmar Honey as Exports Hit 800 Metric Tons

YANGON, Myanmar — Japan and Thailand have emerged as the top destinations for Myanmar’s honey exports, according to data released by the Apiculture Federation under the Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Solutions.

Official figures show that Myanmar exported a total of 838.24 metric tons of honey between April and November of the current fiscal year. The exports generated approximately $1.257 million in revenue.

The majority of the trade was conducted through regular maritime shipping routes, accounting for 836.95 tons, while border trade channels handled the remaining 1.29 tons.

Honey production in Myanmar is concentrated in the Mandalay, Sagaing, and Magway regions, as well as Shan State. Smaller quantities are also produced in Yangon, Bago, Kayah, and Kayin. The sector produces various organic varieties, including jujube, niger, sunflower, multi-floral, rubber, and sesame honey.

In addition to international trade, the domestic market continues to utilize honey for direct consumption and as a primary ingredient in traditional and commercial pharmaceutical manufacturing.
